Renault have announced today that Pat Fry will join the team as Technical Director (Chassis) starting from February 5th.
Having announced Fry’s hiring back in November, the French constructor have now revealed the 55-year-old will start work at his new job exactly one week before the 2020 car launch on February 12.
Formerly of Benetton, Ferrari and Manor, Fry most recently completed a second stint at McLaren, where in his capacity as temporary Engineering Director he was instrumental in the team’s 2019 turnaround.
Going from Woking back to the Enstone factory where he got his start in 1987, Fry faces a similar challenge to kick-start a team with championship aspirations. That said, with the expected adjustment period and this year’s challenger almost being out the door, it won’t be until later in the season — if not 2021 — before he is able to make an impact.
